Jason, Erin, Mitch and Mildred (“Dred”) are the Assorted Zebras, a teenage garage band in Wisconsin with no fans and no gigs.

Then Jason sneaks into the fairy world and steals four magic-fueled musical instruments, the kind fairies use to enchant and trick humans.

The new instruments make the band a huge overnight success, on their way to rock stardom. But the band members aren’t exactly ready for fame, fortune, or the supernatural creatures sent by the fairies to track them down.

MY THOUGHTS:

Oh, WOW! When I started reading this book, someone should have told me it was going to be this good because then I would've started it earlier. I just couldn't put it down!

Fairy Metal Thunder revolves around your average teenage garage band who by some inadvertent fluke manage to get their hands on magical fairy instruments that draw humans like moths to a flame. But of course, the fairies (especially Queen Mab) will do anything to get them back.

Characters are always important for me in a good book, so I was thrilled when I fell in nearly love with every single one! Jason is just an all-around awesome character with heart and humor and everything you could want in a guy. His little sister is so adorable; his other band mates are hilarious; the fairies are tons of fun to read about.

Plus, there's also a sweet, sweet, realistically sweet romance between Jason and Erin, which I find is a hard thing to accomplish in urban fantasy books.

Everything about this book is so much fun to read! From J.L. Bryan's vivid yet quick writing style, to the perfectly incorporated fairy lore, to the enchanting plot, it all adds up to a book that you HAVE to read, whether you're a fan of fairies of not! :)

BUY or BORROW?: This is definitely a buy! Plus, it's only 99 cents in e-book format right now (which I think is really under-priced for such an awesome book, but oh well)!

  2. Oooh, music! One of my favorite story themes...will definitely check this out. Am especially intrigued by the "realistically sweet romance" you talk of...that really is hard to find in the paranormal/UF genres.

Good review! Off to shop. :)

  6. Ahhh! I need to read this, I adore JL's Paranormals series! This just sounds like such a fun read, and maybe one that's a little lighter than Jenny Pox which will be nice I think:) Awesome review Mimi!

  7. This sounds really cool. I haven't read many reviews on it but the ones I've seen have all been great. I also find characters to be an important part of a novel. If I can't connect with them I usually get bored quickly. I'll have to give this one a try!

  10. I confess that when I see the cover of this book I didn't look about the synopsis. But finally it sounds nice, it's not the book I thought it was. Magical fairy instruments sounds really fun, and very original. Thanks for this awesome review !
