Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

MY THOUGHTS:

With a title this fun and a cover this gorgeous, how could you NOT want to pick this book up?

I'm about as big a fan of insta-love as the next person (which isn't very much) so of course I was curious as to how the author would approach writing a book called The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. And I LOVED IT. It was adorable without being overly fluffy, romantic without being unbelievable, and touching in a way that I didn't expect.

As a girl with divorced parents too, I could connect with Hadley immediately but I also think that people with happily married parents will fall in love with her as well! She was such a realistic character with small quirks like disliking mayo that made her so easy to connect with.

And Oliver... Oh, Oliver! He was sweet and funny and had a British accent (and if that's not enough to make you fall in love with him, he was nice to little old ladies too!). The romance between Hadley and Oliver may be described as insta-love, but I feel it was more instant attraction than anything else. It will bring a smile to your face for sure!

Immensely adorable and incredibly thoughtful, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is a book that captured my heart from beginning to end! It will beg you to read it out loud and to recommend it to everyone you know (especially those who've witnessed a divorce before). I loved this book completely and I hope you do too! :)

BUY or BORROW?: Buy it for sure! Not only to have this stunning cover on your shelf (although that might be reason enough anyways!), but because it's a short & sweet novel that you'll want to have easy access to so you can read it again. ;)

  3. Awwwwww <3 This sounds soooo sweet! I too don't particularly like insta-love BUT looks like this "love at first sight" isn't the usual insta-love? AWESOME. Okayyyy now I REALLY need to get hold of this book <3 Oh and OLIVER! DID YOU SAY BRITISH ACCENT?!?! HOLY MOLY. I swear I'm falling in love with him already <3 I feel like this will be one of those books that will instantly make me happy even when I'm in a really foul mood :D Eeee! I seriously MUST read this soon <3 Loved your review, Mimi!

  4. I read this book earlier and I so agree with you! Needless to say I hate insta-love, but just like you, it didn't feel that way to me too. Oliver was just sweet and the whole book was positively adorable, even with some drama going on.

    Thanks for the review!

  7. Oh, my God! I was never able to resist a guy with a British accent! That's almost like a guy speaking Spanish - there's nothing more attractive in the world! So yeah, I totally loved that about Oliver, and I liked how their story progressed.

I was a little less than happy with how quickly and easily the situation with her father was resolved, but all in all, I'm happy to have read this. I even preordered it (the British edition has a slightly blueish cover - I kind of like that one better).

Lovely review as usual, my darling.

  9. MIMI! Oh you summed it up perfectly with this line - "It was adorable without being overly fluffy, romantic without being unbelievable, and touching in a way that I didn't expect. " ABSOLUTELY TRUE! I adored this so, so, so much. Jennifer handled the budding romance so amazingly well and in just over 24 hours, Oliver and Hadley formed a connection with DEPTH that some other books take months to do and yet it still feels weak. And oh heavens, we're such a sucker for the British accent, aren't we? hehe.

    I LOVE YOUR REVIEW!

  10. I think I'll really like this one despite my loathing of insta-love, because I tend to see that in paranormals with other problematic aspects. Contemps can focus on just the relationship and make me believe in it.

  11. This story just sounds so sweet and I'm happy that you stated it's got a case more of instant attraction than instant love since I find that a lot more believable. I definitely plan on reading this one in the future because I love the cover and others have also said that the story is cute but has some depth. Great review, Mimi!

  14. I agree Mimi, it definitely felt more like instant attraction than instant love, and instant attraction I can absolutely believe in:) I thought this one was really cute as well, but it had a nice edge to it to keep it from being all sweetness and light and I really enjoyed that aspect. Outstanding review, I love visiting your blog every day!

  15. Ack Mimi your review is so adorable that I wish I enjoyed this book as much as you did! The part that really hindered it for me was Hadley's father. I wish it focused more on Hadley's and Oliver's relationship because that was the strong point of the book for me. Hee, I really like the bit you said about Oliver being nice to little old ladies!

  16. I'm one of those people with happily-married-parents and I could understand Hadley nonetheless and loved that part of her story. This is definitely one of my favorite contemporary novels - it's soo cute and I actually want to re-read it already. :D

    Great review! :)

OMG! This sounds like a book that has everything I love in a love story. And Oliver is nice to old ladies... that means that he'd be nice to me. *swooooons* I need to meet him. I love British accents. Cheers!

  21. I usually don't like insta love either, but a book where it is the main theme? Me wants! I bought it a few days ago and I can't wait to start reading it. It seems so sweet... and fluffy... And just the kind of book I need when I've just started this new semester.

Oh, and if the boy has British accent... Can't. Wait. To. Read.

    Great review, Mimi! :)

  22. I hear great things about this book and I see you are no different. I always wonder how authors will play out these insta-love scenarios as well. Some of them are written really well and are totally believable. Others...not so much. So I'm glad to know this story was handled well though it seems it wasn't exactly insta-love, maybe quick love? Glad you enjoyed this one. This will have to go on the TBR list soon.

  30. I'm glad to hear that insta love wasn't a problem for you in this book, because like you, that was definitely one of the issues I immediately thought of when I heard the title. Still, I've heard a lot of good things about this book from more than just you, so I'm willing to take a shot and see how it goes!

  34. MIMI! "It was adorable without being overly fluffy, romantic without being unbelievable, and touching in a way that I didn't expect." YES! YES! YES! YESYESYEYES! YESSSS!

I'm with you... my parents divorced when I was very young, but the intensity of Hadley's feeling bowled me over, and I connected with all that hurt and confusion and confliction, too.

I'm so. SO glad you loved this one so much! I did too! I want to pick it up and read it all over again and laugh and cry and want to murder Hadley's dad. PERFECT review, as always, beautiful Mimi! ♥♥♥

  35. OH, MIMI!! When I saw this book everywhere, I thought it's advertised awesomeness was a fluke. But you just convinced me that it must not be! (: My parents are also divorced (which upset me so much when it happened!), and that's how I know that I'll be able to connect with Hadley no matter what! & sweet British boys being nice to old ladies? How could I possibly resist? ;)

Supertastic review, Mimi-Doll!! <3333333 Just added it to my bookstore buying list -- good thing I work at Chapters because otherwise reading all of your amazing reviews would make me even more broke! :P
