There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

MY THOUGHTS:

I think it's an understatement to say that Jennifer L. Armentrout has taken this world by storm! First she stunned everyone with Half-Blood, then she took our breath away with Obsidian. Now there's another huge explosion where I admit that I have Pure is the best one yet!

There are no words to describe how fantastic Jennifer L. Armentrout is at toying with your emotions! I wanted to laugh and cry and pull my hair out. She managed to hook me on from the first page, blindfold me, then strap me onto a roller coaster that would not let go. Even if I despised Greek mythology (which is the opposite of true!), I would've loved this book anyways because of how breathtakingly twisting and original everything about it was!

Alex, our half-blooded heroine, has to be one of the best, kick-ass, snarky, and totally fun characters I've ever read about! You do not want this girl on your opposing team. She's equal parts strength and vulnerability that make her as easy to admire as she is to connect with.

The romance was pure and absolute perfection! Somehow, even as I was falling deeper in love with Aiden (the forbidden pure-blood), Seth managed to wedge his way into my fictional-boy-filled heart. Between all the twists that occur, you don't know what to think! Then there is The Pool Scene. And you may never breathe again.

Intensely gripping and action-packed from the start, Pure is undoubtedly one of the best sequels I've ever read! It easily makes my favourites list and leaves me craving for more. If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for? ;)

BUY or BORROW?: This should not be a question. Or if you have to ask anything, it should be BUY or BUY? because this is one amazing novel that you must have on your shelf!

  3. Oh wow Mimi - excellent review! I can't say enough how excited I am for Pure to come out so I can consume it. It definitely sounds better than HalfBlood, and that one was excellent too.

Thank you for sharing Mimi - your reviews are always the best! Have a great week! <3<3<3

  4. I have to admit I was a little unhappy with how much Half-Blood reminded me of Vampire Academy. I didn't really intend to read this, BUT, I now have to find out about the Pool Scene, don't I? I just can't resist. :D
I did like Alex from the start, even in the prequel. She is exactly as you described her, and we always need an admirable heroine.

Also, both covers are absolutely beautiful, another reason for me to get a copy of this.
Thanks for the absolutely wonderful review, Mimi. ;)

  5. Mimi, when you say things like "the best one yet" and "Jennifer L. Armentrout is rocking the world's socks off" (maybe not in those exact words, but very synonymous!), you can't expect me to sit back and wait for this book to come out without wanting to jump everyone who has an ARC! :P I want to read this book SO BADLY! I want more Alex. I want more Aidan. I want to know how you could be so pro-Seth!!

Fantabulous review, Mimi-Doll! If the question is "buy or buy?" how could I choose anything but?? ;)

  6. AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS BOOK!!!! And the romance is perfect you say? *dies* I love Aiden so much! I can tell Seth is going to make a solid play for my heart as well, I enjoyed him in Half Blood so I'm sure it's only going to get more intense as we move forward. Thanks so much for the review Mimi, it's helping to tide me over a bit!

  7. GAH!!!! I'm the only one in the whoooole world that has yet to read Half-Blood!!! I do OWN it... Then I see reviews like this... For the SECOND book and I'm kicking myself!!!!

  8. You're absolutely right. This is one of the best sequels I've ever read, if not the only one. I didn't even like Seth in the first book and suddenly my heart is doing cartwheels and cheering him on. And oh dear me the pool scene...i think i did stop breathing.
    Great review!

  9. I know I've done this before, but *kicks self repeatedly*

Really, what is wrong with me? Why have I yet to read anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout? She is taking over the world and I need to learn how to obey my new leader. LOL

Usually sequels aren't as strong, so I'm glad to know that wasn't the case here, Mimi. And a romance that steals your breath away? Yup, I love me some of those.

  11. This is a series that I've been meaning to start but haven't had a chance yet. I loved Obsidian so I'm know JLA is awesome.

  12. JLA seriously HAS taken the world by storm! I mentioned in one of my reviews that she popped out of nowhere with all these amazing books. :D I'm glad she has though as it means we get to read all her amazing work and there are so many more books left to go that I cannot WAIT to get my hands on.

Awesome review, Mimi! I loved this book so much and I'm glad to see you loved it too. ;) Now we have to do the torturous wait for Deity!

  13. I hadn't had a lot of thought about reading this series, but after your review? I'm putting it on my list of a MUST READ!! I've heard great things about JLA, but somehow? I just didn't feel like her stories were for me. But now? I think I'll have to grab them!

  14. Ah! I have had this one on my shelf for FOREVER, but I can't read it until it's nearer to my blog tour date. I'M SO FLIPPING EXCITED to read this book! I LOVED Half-Blood so much, and I'm so happy to hear that this sequel is just as fabulous. Love your review, Mimi! <3 I'm so tempted to read this book early. ;)

  15. Do you know how much I'm waiting for this one? I pre-ordered it in January on amazone but since I'm living in France I'm not one of the lucky readers who received it early. I can't wait and your review is just great to make the waiting more difficult. ;)

Now, I'm so crazy that I check the kindle store at least five times a day to see if Pure is available. Yeah, I'm a fan and I know I'm weird but it's not my fault! How to resist to Jennifer L. Armentrout's books? Impossible.

  16. I really enjoyed Half-Blood so I can't wait to read Pure! I actually really like Seth so I'm glad to hear there's more of him. I'm also glad to hear Pure lives up to the awesomeness of Half-Blood. Fantastic review :)

  17. A blind folded roller coaster ride! Fun! I am sorry to say that I passed on Half Blood in the fall because I read some reviews that called it a VA rip off. Now I am wishing I had read it, well still have time. This sounds like a greaf series. I have to admit, I am in love with the covers. They are gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh my Gosh! Greek mythology? I'm sold! I didn't think that I would want to read this series, but after the mention of mythology and pure love, I'd sure check out the bookstore for the first book! It just sounds SO awesome! x)

Beautiful review as always, Mimi! Sometimes I wonder what is the recipe of your awesome reviews. Maybe it's just your amazing personality that makes your reviews fantastic! I can't wait to read more of your reviews! <3

  19. Oh another awesome 5/5, always so great when you love a series. Now it could be amazing if it stays that way. I really need to get into these books, but always so difficult with so many books, it's terrible. But I'll suceed!!! (yes yes it's true!)

  20. Greek mythology? I am so in! Hadn't heard of this one before but it looks amazeballs! Great review and thanks for sharing, Mimi :) Adding this one to my to read pile, ASAP.

  21. Ooooh you make me want to go and pick this whole series up today. I just went on a book spree so I have to hold back, but I have more for the TBR list thanks to you! Alex sounds like my kind of heroine. I love those kick-ass girls who also really have a heart and some feelings. And I do love my snarky characters. So curious as to how this series plays out. Lovely review! You have certainly piqued my interest.

  22. Oh I can't wait to read this one! So glad it didn't disappoint!

  23. AGH. Curse you, Mimi! You always make me want to read the books you review! I was a bit iffy about reading Pure because while I liked Half-Blood, the VA comparisons kinda put me off. (I loveloveLOVED Obsidian, though!). But you and your damn amazing reviews.... SIGH. It sounds like a fantastic sequel and I'm definitely going to have to consider checking it out :D Amazing review!

  24. Oh my GOD! What is with this utterly tempting and book-love-oozing review?! <3 Sure, I've laughed and cried...haven't had a book that's made me want to pull my hair though!I've heard some great stuff, haven't read any of her books though... I probably should...

    Fantastic review, anyhow!

  25. I think we have something awesome in our hands! The sad part is that I started reading the first sample chapters of Half-Blood, and while I LOVED all the action and the fight and everything, (at least) the beginning was so similar to Vampire Academy that I left it at that and didn't think about continuing it.

And then I also read the beginning of Obsidian, and... I found that the action that pulled me in was missing. Aaaargh, and you say they're amazing? Now I'm seriously dubting my decision.

What should I do? Do you think I should read them? :x

By the way, I hope you have a wonderful start of the week, Mimi~ ♥

  26. Aaaaah! Mimiiiii, I've, uh, kind of avoided this series for months because as shiny as the cover is, it didn't really do anything for meee... but it sounds AMAZING! Aaaah! Aiden and Seth! I WANT TO MEET THESE BOYS! Bah! It's reminding me a bit of Dimka and Adrian... two love interests who you both genuinely like, rather than rooting for one entirely? *dies*

NO FAIR! STOP WITH THE AMAZING REVIEWS!

  27. Half-Blood reminded me a lot of Vampire Academy (which I loved) so I'm hoping that Pure won't be as similar in comparison. I'm still really excited about it though. Alex is a great heroine, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to her and Aiden, and Seth was just fun to have around :)

  28. Can't wait for my turn to read it!

    Thanks for sharing your review!

  29. WELL. if you loved this book so much, Mimi, I won't be the least bit wary about reading this sequel. I liked Half-Blood, but Obsidan is still my favorite at this point. But if you say Pure is even more amazing than both of the aforementioned titles, than I shall prepare myself to be dazzled accordingly ;)

  31. How terrible is it that I haven't read a single one of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books? They seem to be popping up everywhere but I never seem to get around to it. I am so going to go find pure blood this instant.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Gosh, I can't even sit still right now. The waiting for this book really makes me anxious: I want to read it NOW!! Everyone so far has been super duper excited and was even more in love with the story than for the first. And.. I loved already the first one like crazy! Can't.freaking.Wait!

  33. The romance was pure and absolute perfection! ♥ Somehow, even as I was falling deeper in love with Aiden (the forbidden pure-blood), Seth managed to wedge his way into my fictional-boy-filled heart. Between all the twists that occur, you don't know what to think! Then there is The Pool Scene. And you may never breathe again.

This paragraph pretty much sums up my ENTIRE EXPERIENCE reading PURE, Mimi. I just want you to know, we're on the same wavelength. :D I swooned SO much reading it, then of course, I growled some over Aiden (REALLY, Aiden?!) and giggled over the boys being all ~alpha males and fighting. This one tugged at my heart, a lot, and I...I'm not sure how Jennifer could get any better - but like you, I know she will!
