Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom . . .

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

(summary taken from Goodreads)
MY THOUGHTS:

"Ohmysweetgoodness!" Out of all the mermaid books I've ever read, Of Poseidon definitely takes the top spot! I absolutely loved it from start to finish.

Told from the alternating perspectives between Emma and Galen, the story is so well-written and easy to get absorbed in that it's definitely a one-sit read. Not only is the lore of Syrena incredibly fascinating, but there's also an underlying mystery that hooks you in even more. You can never really guess what's going to happen. This story will grab you hook, line, and sinker, and you can only hang on for the speedy ride.

I know I must say this a lot, but Emma has to be my new best friend! She's stubborn and snarky and absolutely hilarious in that subtle-clever sort of way. And I don't know what to say about Galen except that he makes a tail seem like the hottest thing ever. The romance is electric and sizzling. Every moment they spend denying their attraction to each other is another moment you want to push them together but in a good way!

The rest of the cast is fun too. Rayna and Toraf, other Syrena like Galen, are a blast. Even their human friends like Rachel bring smiles to my face. Of Poseidon also ends on a cliffhanger that makes me want to pull my hair out, but I can't even recommend that you read this book closer to the release of the second because it's one you want to read as soon as possible.

Fast-paced, fun, and with a romance that teases and pleases at the exact same time, Of Poseidon is undoubtedly the best fish-filled story ever to hit the shelves. I can guarantee that you'll lose sleep reading this book and thinking about it after! :)

BUY or BORROW?: Definitely a buy-worthy book! You'll want to read it again and again, so having it on your shelf would be the perfect solution for your soon-to-develop Galen addiction! ;)

  1. I WANT WANT WANT WANT. And this isn't even one of my superficial cover-wants either (although I really do love this cover LOL)! I want this book because I haven't read a good mermaid book in AGES, and you make this one sound so good! :D

And if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were trying to be punny, Mimi! "Start to finish." "Hook, line, and sinker." LOL or maybe this is just me wanting to take the silliest things out of awesome reviews like yours. (x

FAN-flipping-TASTIC review, Mimi-Doll!!! <33333 Is it a bad thing that I'm in the mood for fish right now? :P

  4. You don't know how happy I am that you loved it, Mimi! It's a book I've been desperately wanting to read for a long time, since I think I still don't have a mermaid-themed favorite book. This one seems like the perfect candidate :)

I don't usually read books with different POVs, but I'm definitely excited to see what this one has to offer. And if there are mermaids in the story... Oh, gosh, I so want to read it! *fangirls*

I love hearing your thoughts on books! How can you make me love this book when it's not even out yet? lol

By the way, have a great Monday!!♥

  8. A hero who makes a tail seem like the hottest thing ever? Gosh, Mimi, you sure know how to make me smile! I have this big grin on my face right now, because in truth I have no idea how a guy with tail can manage to be sexy! Somehow I have the strange image of him wagging his tail to the girl LOL! xD I keep reading amazing reviews of this book, so I can't wait to get my hands on this book! Plus, I love mermaid story! <3

Such an enchanting review, Mimi! You make me so interested to hunt this book when it comes out later!♥

  10. Hey, Mimi! :) Sarah (from Saz101!) recommended your blog to me ages ago but I never exactly got to comment... I'm so lame! I've always wanted to, though!

Anyway, I really want to read Of Poseidon. I'm totally a water person, I believe, but I feel like I haven't read anything placing emphasis on water or the sea! You gave it a great review so I'll try my hardest to find it now. :)

On a random note, what's your element? :D

  11. I do love stories with alternating perspectives but I just have not really enjoyed the mermaid stories I've tried. However the writing in this one sounds amazing and I really do want to fall in love with a mermaid story so maybe this will be the one. Thanks for the review!

  15. I agree Mimi! This was definitely the best mermaid (excuse me Galen, Syrena) book I've read! Emma had me snorting laughing from the first page and I didn't stop the whole way through. She was completely and adorably ridiculous:) I figured some things out before the characters did so I saw that cliffhanger coming, but it didn't detract from the entertainment value and I can't wait for book two! Fabulous review my friend!

Alright, so I haven't really read many mermaid books but I love the lore for under-the-sea creatures and I love the sound of mermaid kingdoms and histories and all that fun stuff.

Emma, Galen & co. sound like fantastic characters. You have to love those sexy tails ;) LOL. I can't wait to read this book in May -- it sounds amazing.

  25. Oh my, if a boy can make a tail seem hot, he must really be amazing! I love that you connected with the characters, especially Emma and that you got pulled into the story so easily. I must admit that I've never read a YA mermaid book (I know, weird, right?), because I never thought one could possibly work for me, but you make this one sound so interesting, Mimi. After all, how could I possibly resist the best fish-filled story out there? Lol.
    Amazing review, Mimi!

  26. MIMI!! I can now add your review to the piles of good reviews for this book but with the extra Mimi-ness all your reviews have. I love mermaids but have yet to read a good mermaid book. I hope this book changes that! Galen must be really something if a tail seems hot, haha. I can't wait until this book comes out, I can't wait to read it. Your review brought a smile to my face as always! <3

  27. Snarky, stubborn heroine? Boy that makes a tail 'seem like the hottest thin ever'? MIMI. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME? The AUS publisher doesn't want any reviews until May, because the book's not out until June here, so I've been trying to hold off on reading my copy until next month. ASHJDFNJKDFGDM. It's a bit HARD to do that when certain people post PERSUASIVE reviews that make me want to go stuff my head inside a copy RIGHT NOW *grumbles*

I love that the romance SIZZLES, because lately they've been a little mellow in books I've been reading. I want one that will suck me in. Ahhhh and the plot and the characters and the everything and damn you, damn you, damn you. Fantastic review!

  28. Like Brodie, The AUS publisherd doesn't want any reviews until May so I am not going to read the book until May itself SO BRODIE AND I ARE BITING OUR NAILS WAITING TO READ THE BOOK! MIMI, your review is simply put: beautiful and AWESOME. I AM SO GLAD to hear that the story is just as gorgeous as the cover!!!! ♥

So glad you enjoyed it, Mimi! ♥

  35. This one sounds amaazing! I love POV changes and it's great when the author does it right. I have yet to read a mermaid book but you really make me want to go and pick this one up today. I can feel your enthusiasm for it. Emma sounds like my kind of heroine as I'm a big fan of snark and sarcasm. Witty and smart heroines are the best and Galen sounds like a dream too. Great review! I guess I know which mermaid book to start with first.

I have been very unsure of mermaid books because I haven't found any I like so far. But I've seen everyone just raving about this one so I decided I'd give it a try. I really hope I love it just as much as you did!
