Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

MY THOUGHTS:

HOLY WOW. People say that it's hard to write reviews for books you don't like, but I honestly think it's harder to write them for books you absolutely LOVE! Wither was one of my favourite reads of all time and Fever is just as breathtaking, if not more!

Lauren DeStefano has some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read! She hooks you in from the very beginning and traps you in a dark dystopian world unlike any other. And you wouldn't think so, but the GORGEOUS cover actually has a lot to do with the story with its old carnivals, rusty merry-go-rounds, and dying girls covered in glitter.

Rhine is such an amazing voice for this novel! Like a poet at heart, she's strong and hopeful and resilient and caring. We get to spend more time (and fall more in love) with Gabriel too , and some old characters surprise us while some new ones cling to our hearts.

I love the dystopian world that DeStefano creates because it's so dark and gritty and scarily realistic, where a disease claims the life of ever man at age 25 and every woman at age 20. With amazing characters, writing, and story, she makes every surprising corner come to life!

Beautiful, lyrical, and dark in its enchantment, Fever is one of those books that makes me want to invent a new rating for it! Some may say that The Chemical Garden series isn't for everyone because it's so dark at times, but I would honestly recommend it to everyone! :)

BUY or BORROW?: You need to buy this book when it comes out I'm definitely buying my own finished copy! Lauren DeStefano is undoubtedly an author worth starting a collection for!

  1. These definitely sound dark and gritty...I'm curious, how much of an impact does the limited lifespan have? Because I admit the first thing I thought when I saw the "Men only live to 25 and women only live to 20" was...yeah, that's not gonna happen! I just can't believe the series will honestly end in them dying...or maybe it will? *shrugs* I'm curious about these books, but I think I will wait and read them when the whole thing is written...

  6. I think it's harder to write reviews of books you love because you might just end up writing "This is amazing-go read it!" Happily you wrote much more than that, giving me great insight into this sequel!

Though I ahve to study like crazy *sigh* Anyways, I totally agree with you that it is harder to write reviews about books you absolutely love. It is so hard to make them justice!! DUDE! It took me more than 3 hours to write Shatter Me's review! O_O

  8. AHHHHHH!!! SO EXCITED MIMI!!! I adored Wither, and I know a lot of people didn't care for it because the world is definitely dark, but it was a favorite read of mine last year because I thought the characters were so interesting. I can't wait to get my hands on this one, so glad to know you LOVED it:)

  9. Yay!!! Thanks for this review, Mimi. Book one left me so curious about Gabriel. He didn't seem like anyone significant. And, I really am surprised that the cover fits into the story, because like you said, you wouldn't think so!!!

  13. My dear Mimi! I reply you here bcs if I do it in my blog, you wont know XD LOL

Crossed is, in fact, not as good as Matched. People is right when they do that comparison. However, is is not bad at all!! hell no! Matched for me is a 5 stars book. I super love it! Crossed is a 4 stars for me. But, as I said in my review, that's because I felt the ending was way too fast. I felt it was rushed. THe rest was WOW! I loved it!

I hope you enjoy it once you read it! for me is a must and I cant wait for the third book! sniff!!!!!!!!...btw, Im reading Fever now!! hahahah! I was supposed to read Eyes Like Stars but I put it on hold because of you! LOL! so far so super good! oh yeah! ^.^

    muah!

  16. I agree wholeheartedly--Wither was, too, my favorite book of 2011 & now I have a fever for Fever. I first had just an ARC of Wither, but I had to have a finished version because I also wanted this wonderful series as part of my collection.
